Our Origin
Born From
Necessity.
GrantPortal was built out of lived experience. As an initiative of PWA Toronto, a registered nonprofit serving people living with HIV since 1988, we know first-hand what it takes to sustain community programming through grant funding.
We watched talented organizations fail to secure funding — not because their work wasn't worthy, but because they lacked the capacity to write compelling applications, track deadlines, and build relationships with funders.
So we built the platform we always needed. And then we opened it to everyone.
PWA Toronto begins internal grant tracking with spreadsheets. A better way is needed.
First internal AI grant drafting tools built for PWA Toronto's own applications.
Platform opens to partner organizations — PASAN, CATIE, Latinos Positivos.
GrantPortal launches publicly. 50+ organizations onboarded in the first six months.

A community-based Harm Reduction/HIV/HCV organization providing support, education, and advocacy for people in conflict with the law across Ontario.
Latinos Positivos Toronto
A community organization serving Latino people living with HIV/AIDS in Toronto, breaking down language and cultural barriers to access healthcare and social services.
APAA
Established 1993. Delivers culturally appropriate HIV/AIDS programs, outreach, prevention education, and support services to African communities in the GTA.
Hope for Refugees International
A Black LGBTQI+ refugee- and newcomer-led organization empowering refugees and newcomers to live with dignity, safety, and opportunity across Ontario.
